Component Description
Precision Power Sensing in a Tiny I²C Gumshoe – INA219 Module
The INA219 breakout is a micro‑controller‑friendly I²C power monitor that integrates a wide‑band current sense amplifier, a 16‑bit ADC and a programmable gain amplifier into a compact module. By simply shunting a small resistor (typically 0.1 Ω) between the supply pin and the device’s power pin, the module delivers accurate voltage, current and power readings with minimal PCB area. Its internal calibration and dual shunt‑sense configuration enable ±3 % accuracy over a ±40 V supply range, making it ideal for battery management, power‑budget analysis and real‑time energy monitoring.
- Key Spec 1: 16‑bit ADC with 0.1 mV LSB accuracy, delivering voltage up to 16 V and current up to 3.2 A (with 0.1 Ω shunt)
- Key Spec 2: I²C bus interface, 7‑bit address (0x40–0x49) and fast‑mode (400 kHz) support
- Key Spec 3: Programmable gain (96×) and built‑in fault detection with programmable thresholds
- Common Use Case: Battery-powered IoT devices, portable RF receivers and any project requiring accurate power consumption metrics without a bulky multimeter
