MQ-6
Technical Specifications
Component Description
MQ‑6 – High‑Sensitivity Methane & LPG Gas Sensor
The MQ‑6 is an inexpensive, solid‑state gas sensor based on tin dioxide (SnO₂) technology. It is calibrated to detect a broad spectrum of combustible gases such as methane, LPG, propane, butane, and hydrocarbons common in domestic and industrial environments. The sensor’s low power consumption and fast transient response make it ideal for battery‑operated safety devices, HVAC monitoring, and portable leak detection systems.
Featuring a robust ceramic construction and a built‑in temperature‑compensating heater, the MQ‑6 offers stable operation across a wide temperature range (–10 °C to +80 °C). It supplies an analog output proportional to the logarithm of gas concentration, allowing seamless integration with microcontrollers or analog input modules.
- Detection Range: 200 ppm – 5,000 ppm (CH₄, LPG, and other hydrocarbons)
- Response Time: < 30 s for a 100 ppm step change
- Operating Voltage: 5 V – 15 V (typical 12 V)
- Common Use Case: Residential leak detection in kitchens and heating systems, protected by an alarm or automated shut‑off circuitry
