Component Description
Sim800L GSM Modem – Low‑Power, High‑Reliability Cellular Interfacing in a Tiny Package
The Sim800L is a ready‑to‑ship 2G GSM/GPRS module designed for embedded systems and IoT applications that require reliable voice, SMS, and internet connectivity over a global cellular network. Packaged in a compact 7×12 mm module, it supports all four GSM quad‑band frequencies (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz) and delivers robust data speeds up to 53 kbps with TCP/UDP, HTTP, FTP and XMODEM protocols.
Its low‑power, AT‑command interface makes integration seamless with microcontrollers, single‑board computers or industrial PCs. The module balances performance and energy consumption, drawing 2 A peak during transmission while offering standby consumption as low as 30 mA. Coupled with a straightforward UART, SPI, or parallel interface, the Sim800L is ideal for remote monitoring, telemetry, and automated control in harsh environments.
- Operating Voltage: 3.4 V – 4.4 V peak, 5 V recommended for stable operation
- Peak Current: 2 A during TX/RX bursts; standby <30 mA
- Communication: UART async (1.2 Mbps), optional 4‑wire SPI or parallel data ports
- Common Use Case: Remote sensor data uplink via GPRS, automated firmware update over cellular, SMS‑controlled industrial equipment, or secure voice alerts.
